As promised we are attempting to keep you up todate on the activities of the property committee:

Committee Meeting May 5, 2010:

Property Chair: Reported on the last council meeting and status of the Sonitrol(new fire security vendor) proposal. Due to the lack of a quorum the proposal was selfed until the next council meeting.

Basement Project:

Ron Kraatz provided a detail review of the project and candid explanation of problems encountered. The work is proceeding slowly due the inexperience of the crew. However, the new windows will be ordered soon and some work has begun on the framing. The latter work could use some extra hands to speed up the project. Overall the work is proceeding according to the building plan. Also, the results of the latest radon test indicate the radon level to be well below EPA standards.

Buildings and Structures:

Green projects are proceeding as planned. The latest effort was installation of a motion detector in the cloakroom. Next on the list is the installation of motion detectors in the classroom hallway and sacristy area.

Plans are in place to install a serge prtector on the Church Building. Artek Electrical is preparing an estimate which will be presented for council approval.

Grounds,Landscaping, and Parking Lot:

Jan Frick has surveyed the property for the purpose of identifying activities for Spring clean up. Not much required. She will coordinate planting activities with Deb Gressen.

Jule Beer will proceed to install new energy efficient light fixtures on the Parking lot area.

Building Use,Documentation, and Protection:

Work completed, as part of the anniversay celebration, has moved efforts to create an archival system greatly. Our thnks to Pam for her help and cooperation.

Policies established for building use and access control should be attached to related council minutes indicating council approval. Also, the office manager has asked for help to enforce the access control policy dealing with key control.

Notes: Council approved the Sonitrol proposal and the necessary documentation has been submitted to the Council President for signature. The initial plan was to install new devices in the basement. Due to the age of the equipment in other areas council has requested a quote for the entire church structure.

We have a lot of catching you up and news to report. But first let me commit to updating the blog on a more timely basis. In the future look for updates at least monthly.

Now for some news you have been waiting for:

1. The first milestone of our basement project, Demolition, has been reached and work is well underway on installing the subflooring. This has been achieved through the dedication of Ron Kraatz and his crew.

2. Thanks to Ron Kraatz, we have been able to document the Basement Project construction plan. A complete descriptio of the Construction Plan for the basement will be shown in the congregation lounge.

3. As Part of our STEM (Saving Through Energy Management) participation, sensors have been installed in the lounge restrooms to regulate the lighting and exhaust fans.

4. Our 2010 projects include a number of efforts to install energy efficient lighting in the church sanctuary and parking lot.

5. In concert with the Basement Project the property committee is in the process of reviewing our fire security system with the intent of obtaining the most cost effective service and upgrading the fire detection equipment.

As part of the annual snowflake effort, the property committee is seeking donations for specific items not covered by our current budget. If you have any questions please send them to property@stmarkglastonbury.org.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chuck Edinger, Property Chairperson

Welcome to the property committee blog. Our goal is to keep you up to-date on our activities and invite you to lend your skills on one of our projects (see projects). For those of you who, like me, do not feel at home with a hammer and nail, this is could be an opportunity to recognize your potential.

When I accepted the responsibility of chairperson for the property committee there were only four items on the committee project list. Presently there are 17 outstanding items and 3 in progress. The property committee has completed 17 projects so far this year.

 Property Committee Members

Chuck Edinger, Chairperson

Chuck Edinger, Building and Structures Subcommittee

Jan Frick, Grounds, Landscaping, and Parking Subcommittee

Ron Strine, Building Use, Protection, and Documents Subcommittee

Ron Kraatz, Special Project Leader- Basement Capital Improvement

Jule Beer, Past President

Dave Rutz, Utility Infielder and Acting Secretary

Special Project - Basement Capital Improvement

After a summer of inspections and actions needed to obtain a building permit for the basement project, work has begun and is progressing nicely. Ron's team has begun to install the sheetrock ceiling, floor supports and framing for wall structures. He expects to begin pouring the concrete floor in the near future.

Green Committee

The property committee has partnered with green committee, chaired by Lee Hilliard, to participate in classes conducted by STEM, an inter faith organization, and sponsored by Emmanuel Church, Hartford. There are six Lutheran Churches taking these classes to learn how to conduct effective energy audits of church facilities.

Clean-Up Day

Last Saturday was a wonderful success due to the great turn-out of volunteers. All of the major items on our task list were completed by noon time. My thanks to all and especially, Jan Frick for her efforts to promote clean up day.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chuck Edinger
